A Monika Bobinska project

Adam King uses mixed media and collage to compose pastoral landscapes which speak of the modern and contemporary world and urban environment.
Allusions to the sublime, history and enchantment are explored within poetic and post-apocalyptic panoramas in states of flux.
References to contemporary urban development and consumer culture are layered within images that include ancient burial chambers and futuristic space flight.
The works take inspiration from a wide range of contemporary and art historical sources to create works which speak of temporal ambiguity.
19th century landscape painting, Paul Nash and CWR Nevinson, recent American collage and painting and 1960’s and 70’s, nature and science illustrations - all are variously reconfigured to create new worlds that speak of the optimism of a technological future and the potential of environmental disaster.
Adam King completed his MA in Drawing at Wimbledon College of Art. His work is currently featured in the touring exhibition Beyond Pattern, and future exhibitions include Colour:Form-Art in the midst of a perfect storm (London/New York, curated by Horace Brockington) and Inspired by William Morris (William Morris museum, London). Previous solo exhibitions include The Solo Project (2009), Ambivalent Landscape (2008), Distant Echo Wilderness (2007) and Connections...disconnections (2002). Adam King is represented by Pippy Houldsworth gallery.
