Lounge is pleased to present a solo show of new paintings and works on paper by D J Roberts. The work explores ordinary but enigmatic places that possess a sense of strangeness or mystery. There is a sense of implied narrative in these works, the feeling that something, something disturbing perhaps, has just happened or is about to happen. The work is roughly executed, in keeping with the subject matter. Sometimes real places are depicted, sometimes places worked up from memory, imagination or collage. Invariably the final image is very different from the source material: the aim is to capture the spirit of the place as opposed to its naturalistic representation.
